One Goal for Your Company in 2021: Switch to S/4HANA

Updated: Feb 3

Before the start of every New Year, smart companies put together a list of carefully selected goals for the following year. When the New Year begins, every move, from marketing campaigns to new hires to purchases in office equipment is done to get closer to their goals.

As your company begins to roll out its plan for 2021, consider adding one more goal to your list: Switching over to S/4HANA. Here is why:

Last quarter, NTT DATA hosted a three-part webinar series to help companies successfully change over to S/4HANA. Attendees learned the technical aspects of making the move to S/4HANA as well as why the changeover makes business sense. Many participants have since added moving to S/4HANA as one of their objectives in business this year.

In the webinars, top experts discussed three scenarios of companies moving their businesses to S/4HANA. Below is a summary of the scenarios. As you read the summaries below, ask, “Which scenario best describes our current business situation?”

In the webinars, top experts discussed three scenarios of companies moving their businesses to S/4HANA. Below is a summary of the scenarios. As you read the summaries below, ask, “Which scenario best describes our current business situation?”

  1. New Implementation/Re-Implementation – This approach entails reengineering and process simplification based on latest innovations. If your business is dealing with heavy changes of organizational structures, Lots of inconsistent data, outdated add-ons or business functions, and outdated processes, it is recommended to implement SAP best-practice content on a new platform and retire the old one.

  2. System ConversionThis option involves a complete technical in-place conversion of an existing SAP Business Suite ERP system to S/4HANA. The move preserves historical data and individual developments, gives customers the option to gradually adopt the innovations at their own pace, and costs less.

  3. Selective Data Transition – Selective Data Transition is a value driven data migration to the new platform. For example, a company wants to consolidate the current SAP Business Suite landscape into one global SAP S/4HANA system of selective data migration based on legal entities. Option three is optimal for mergers and acquisitions, and restructurings.

Let’s take a closer look at option #2, System Conversion, and give you three more incentives for going with S/4HANA in 2021.

  • Keep Configuration and Data – According to Reimund Lips, a presenter in the first webinar, companies can bring existing business processes to the new platform while maintaining existing configurations and data.

  • Keep Data History and Custom Code – Clients can move data history to the new platform and adjust their custom code to S/4HANA.

  • Build the foundation for Innovation – There is an opportunity to create a platform for future innovations. Additionally, clients can carry out further innovations in downstream projects.
